President Calls for Calm and Dialogue After Violent Protests in Tirana

President Bajram Begaj has called for calm, restraint and dialogue following violent incidents during protests in Tirana, urging all parties involved to work together to ease tensions and restore stability.

In a public statement, Begaj said he had followed the protests and the demonstrators’ demands, expressing regret over acts of violence reported over the past two days. He stressed that every citizen’s voice deserves to be heard, particularly that of young people, whom he described as representing the country’s hope and future.

“Violence is not, and can never be, the solution,” Begaj said, warning that it harms society, threatens public safety and deepens divisions within democratic society.

The president urged protesters and all stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could undermine constitutional order and national stability. He emphasized that Albania needs responsibility, mutual understanding and constructive dialogue to overcome the current tensions.

Begaj also voiced support for law enforcement officers carrying out their duties during what he described as a particularly delicate situation, while wishing a speedy recovery to everyone injured, including police officers and protesters.

Reaffirming his willingness to facilitate dialogue, the president called on all parties involved to engage in cooperation and constructive discussions in the interest of young people and the country as a whole.

“Albania is our common homeland. It is the home of everyone,” Begaj said, urging citizens and political actors to ensure that differences do not become a source of division, but instead encourage mutual understanding and peaceful solutions.
