Progress in Tirana-Durres Highway Expansion
Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku inspected on Thursday the construction site of the Tirana–Durres highway, where works have already advanced significantly.
Balluku emphasized that this is one of the highest-performing infrastructure projects in Albania. “We are in the second phase of this construction site. The first phase is progressing well and steadily, at 65%. The second phase has reached 80% completion,” Balluku said.
Although the contractual deadline is September 2026, Balluku expressed confidence that the project will be delivered in time for the end-of-year holidays. “Even though the contractual deadline is September 2026, we are already close to the last 200 meters near the Kashar overpass. We are shaping the route for the new section there, and we hope to deliver it nine months ahead of schedule,” she stated.
Balluku underlined that the first six kilometers of the Tirana–Durres highway, starting from “Casa Italia” up to the Kashar overpass, have now been transformed into a type A highway with a width of 32.5 meters.
Meanwhile, work has already begun on the contract for the third phase of the Tirana–Durres highway, which foresees the continuation of the road’s expansion.
