Rama Welcomes Cross-Party Support for Albania’s EU Membership Resolution
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has welcomed the agreement reached between the ruling Socialist Party and the opposition Democratic Party over the approval of a parliamentary resolution related to Albania’s European Union membership process.
Speaking during his podcast “Flasim” on Sunday, Rama described the opposition’s decision to join the governing majority on an issue linked to European integration as a positive development for the country.
“The final note is about something welcome in the Albanian Parliament, where unexpectedly — but positively, I repeat — the opposition forces joined the governing majority for a resolution connected to membership in the European Union,” Rama said.
“I am genuinely pleased that something like this happened,” the prime minister added.
The resolution is seen as a symbolic show of political unity on one of Albania’s key strategic objectives — the country’s integration into the European Union — despite ongoing tensions between the government and opposition on domestic political issues.
Albania officially opened EU accession negotiations in 2022 and continues to pursue reforms required under the bloc’s membership process.
