Six people were injured after a fire broke out at a hotel on Vlora’s Lungomare early Sunday morning, with five of those injured transported to Tirana for specialized treatment, Albanian authorities said.

The fire was reported at around 4:05 a.m. in the “10 Korriku” neighborhood of Vlora, according to police. The injured included five citizens from Kosovo and one person from Rrëshen, northern Albania.

Doctors at Vlora Regional Hospital said three of the injured were in serious condition, while one young woman had burns covering almost her entire body. Five patients were transferred to the specialized burns and plastic surgery unit in Tirana, according to medical officials.

The injured were identified as A. Dyrmishi, 25; A. Rexhepi, 27; N. Rexhepi, 25; E. Grainca, 20; A.K., 30; and Luan Saliu, 21.

Police said one of the injured remained under medical care at Vlora Regional Hospital. Two of those transferred to Tirana had suffered significant burns, according to the official police statement.

An investigation, including a review of security camera footage, determined that the fire was accidental, police said. Authorities believe the blaze was caused by the burning of an electrical outlet connected to a refrigerator in the hotel’s restaurant area.

The fire also caused material damage to the hotel.

The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office as authorities work to fully document the circumstances surrounding the incident.
