SPAK Chief Downplays Political Pressure, Warns Against Legal Encroachment
The head of Albania’s Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK), Klodian Braho, addressed the High Prosecutorial Council on Monday, stating that there is currently no problematic situation or direct “pressure” stemming from political rhetoric that would threaten the institution’s competencies.
Braho emphasized that, at this stage, political discourse alone does not constitute a tangible risk to SPAK’s mandate. However, he cautioned that concern would arise if such rhetoric were to translate into concrete legal initiatives.
“Rhetoric in itself does not pose a threat. The point at which it becomes concerning is when it is accompanied by legal developments that could affect the institution’s competencies,” Braho said.
He added that SPAK remains vigilant and will respond publicly if any draft laws or legislative proposals emerge that could undermine its authority. In such a scenario, the institution would formally raise its concerns with the High Prosecutorial Council.
“For the moment, I believe there is no issue. If we encounter such a situation—drafts or legal projects—we will raise our voice and make it public. We will also communicate this concern to the Council,” Braho concluded.
