Three Wanted in Connection With Deadly Shooting in Memaliaj as Investigation Intensifies
Authorities in southern Albania have declared three individuals wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred the previous night in Memaliaj, as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances of the crime.
Among those sought by police is Marjaldo Nela, the brother of the alleged shooter. So far, at least 17 people have been questioned by the investigative team, while the exact motive behind the incident remains unclear.
The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Endri Goxhaj, who, according to preliminary information, had a prior criminal record. Early reports suggest the killing followed an escalating conflict between Goxhaj and the suspected perpetrator, Donaldo Nela.
Sources indicate that tensions between the two men were longstanding, with previous disputes reported. Donaldo Nela, also known by the surname Tupja, is said to have a criminal history related to drug trafficking in Greece.
During the shooting, the suspect’s 25-year-old brother, Dario Nela, was seriously injured under circumstances that remain under investigation. Reports also suggest that Dario Nela has family ties to the Kalemi clan through marriage.
The incident took place near a local establishment owned by Sali Kalmi, the uncle of Adriatik Kalemi. Adriatik Kalemi is the brother of Shyqyri Kalemi, one of three victims killed in what is widely referred to as the “Memaliaj massacre” three years ago, raising concerns about possible links between past and present conflicts.
A special investigative unit has been established to collect evidence and testimonies, as police have set up checkpoints along key roads in the area in an effort to locate and apprehend the suspect, who fled immediately after the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
