Tirana Police Charge Seven After Opposition Protest Turns Violent
Tirana Police have launched criminal proceedings against seven individuals following a protest organized by the Democratic Party of Albania on Friday evening along 'Dëshmorët e Kombit' Boulevard.
According to an official police statement, several participants allegedly threw Molotov cocktails, pyrotechnic devices and hard objects at police officers during the demonstration, leading to clashes that left three officers injured.
Authorities said six of the individuals are being investigated for “opposition to public order officers,” “assault due to duty,” and “disturbing public order and peace.” A seventh individual, identified as a member of parliament, is accused of “organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations.”
Police also confirmed the seizure of one Molotov cocktail, pyrotechnic materials and several hard objects allegedly used during the protest.
The demonstration took place on May 8, 2026, in central Tirana, where tensions escalated between protesters and law enforcement near the end of the rally, according to authorities.
