Tirana Police Do Not Authorize Democratic Party Protest, Announce Road Closures
Tirana Police has announced that it has not authorized the protest scheduled for today at 18:00 in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, as notified the Democratic Party.
According to police, the decision was based on a risk assessment and taking into account that during the previous protest there were masked individuals who threw Molotov cocktails and pyrotechnic devices, injuring police officers. Authorities also stated that they have received information suggesting the possibility of violent acts during today’s planned gathering.
In its official response to the political party, Tirana Police declared that it would not assume responsibility for the organization of the rally. However, in accordance with the law “On Assemblies,” authorities have taken measures to guarantee public order and security should the gathering proceed.
Traffic Restrictions
Starting from 15:00 on February 20, 2026, until the conclusion of the protest, vehicle traffic will be blocked along “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard, from the intersection near the Ministry of Interior to “Nënë Tereza” Square. Traffic will also be restricted on the streets “Ukraina e Lirë,” “Papa Gjon Pali II,” and “Ismail Qemali.”
Depending on how the gathering unfolds, additional traffic restrictions may be implemented on other road segments. Police have stated that alternative routes will be made available to assist citizens affected by the closures.
Tirana Police has urged citizens to avoid traveling by vehicle on the affected roads, to use alternative routes, and to distance themselves and report any violent acts or other illegal activities.
