Visitors to Accommodation Facilities Surge in Feb
The accommodation facilities in Albania have continued their upward trend in February 2026, reflecting an expansion in tourist demand from both domestic and foreign visitors.
According to the report published on Friday by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), the number of visitors accommodated in tourist facilities increased by 9.7% compared to February of last year. The increase was supported by both resident visitors with 10.6% and non-resident visitors with 9.1%.
In the same vein, overnight stays have also increased, although at a more moderate pace. Total overnight stays increased by 3.6%, with resident visitors contributing 5.3%, while foreign visitors contributed 2.7%.
Regarding the origin of foreign visitors, the market remains mainly concentrated in the nearby region and traditional European markets.
Italy continues to lead with 30% of foreign visitors, followed by Kosova with 15%, the United Kingdom with 7%, and Germany and France with 5% and 4% respectively.
Structurally, hotels and similar accommodations remain the dominant form of stay, with growth for both residents and non-residents.
Meanwhile, growth has also been recorded in short-term accommodations and other alternative structures, although at a smaller weight in total.
The northern region has recorded the strongest growth in non-resident visitors. Coastal areas have continued to attract significant portions of visitors, confirming their role as a major tourist destination even in the winter months.
The hotel room occupancy rate increased slightly to 16.7%, from 16% a year earlier, signaling a better use of accommodation capacities, although the level still remains moderate due to the seasonality of tourism.
Visitor data by country shows that the citizens from Kosova, who account for 41.4% of the total number of foreign visitors, recorded an increase in the first two months of the year by about 2.5% compared to the same period a year ago.
Meanwhile, Italians continue to be the group with the highest growth in relation to their share of the total tourism in the country. Specifically, this growth was 11.7% for the 2-month period of 2026.
