Voting Closed, Berisha Thanks Citizens for 'Worthy Turnout'
After the end of the voting process, former Prime Minister Sali Berisha in a statement to the media greeted all the citizens who participated in the voting. According to him, the participation was worthy.
"I want to convey the most heartfelt greeting to all those citizens who today changed this day with their vote into a day in our history. They voted in the polling stations in the most extraordinary conditions, they rose above everything and spoke with their vote, they spoke with courage and determination.
They overcame the conglomerate of mafia administration, slanderous oligarchs and their criminal gangs. Courage, determination, responsibility of citizens today was epic.
The participation was not what the desperate want to reduce, those who did everything against this process, but among the most worthy participation for the citizens of the country", emphasized the former prime minister.
Berisha also had an appreciation for the commissioners, whom he said resisted the pressure of the ruling mafia and gangs. He said that they must responsibly continue the work of counting votes until the end.
"They faced pressure and threats from the most unacceptable, but performed with honour before the Albanians, a duty that is above all duties. In peacetime this is the duty above all duties.
I appeal to them with the responsibility they demonstrated during the day, with the courage with which they faced the wild pressures of the state mafia, gangs and oligarchs, and with that responsibility to count every vote. I guarantee the citizens that their vote will weigh more than ever. This battle is a battle of historical importance and this battle will be won only by those who defend the just cause of free and fair elections", said Berisha.
