A 43-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly setting her elderly father on fire in the northern Albanian town of Burrel, police said.

The incident reportedly took place around midday on Wednesday in the city's “Pjetër Budi” neighborhood.

According to a police statement, the suspect, identified by her initials as M.M., allegedly poured gasoline over her father before setting him alight, Top Channel correspondent Dëfrim Karaj reported.

The elderly man sustained burns to his face and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Police confirmed that the 43-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case, including the possible motive.

Confidential police sources told local media that the woman reportedly showed no signs of remorse following the incident. This claim has not been independently confirmed
