Albania’s High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) has postponed its latest meeting after members failed to reach the required quorum.

The council is expected to use the period ahead to address the extension of the deadline for candidates to submit their asset declaration forms to the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of Assets and Conflicts of Interest (ILDKPKI).

The meeting could not proceed because the required number of members was not present. The postponement comes as the KLP continues procedures related to the candidates and their documentation in the ongoing process to select Albania’s next Prosecutor General.

KLP had yet to forward the self-declared asset forms of five candidates for verification by ILDKPKI, delaying the financial vetting process.

The council has also seen disagreements among its members, including reciprocal requests for resignations during the selection process. The disputes have raised questions over the timeline and whether the statutory deadlines for appointing the next Prosecutor General will be met.

The postponed meeting was chaired by rapporteur Erind Gërmenji, who announced that the council would reconvene at a later date.

The process remains ongoing as the KLP works to complete the candidates’ verification and advance the selection procedure for Albania’s next Prosecutor General.
