Energy Ministry Receives Application for Private TPP
Despite the fact that different strategies in the country aim to diversify renewable energy sources, a request has been submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy for the construction of a thermal power plant, which will produce energy from fuels.
According to the ministry's announcement, the plant will have an installed capacity of 170 MW and is expected to be built in the area of Roskovec, in the Fier region. In case of finalization of the procedure, the company will not benefit from the government's support measures.
The proponent of the project is the company “Fier Thermoelectric Sh.a.”, which was registered with the National Business Center in October of last year. 70% of the company's shares are owned by GEK TERNA, created by the merger of 2 Greek companies operating in the field of construction. Meanwhile, 30% of the shares are owned by the Albanian company "Gener 2", Scan TV reported.
The object of the activity is precisely the development of the thermal power plant project, as well as the sale, trading or other disposition of the electricity produced by the plant. If the project is approved by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, this will be the third plant in Albania that is expected to generate energy from fuel, which is not renewable energy anyway and goes against the decarbonization policies, in which Albania is also involved.
Meanwhile, in addition to it, there is the Vlora Thermal Power Plant and the floating thermal power plants, which have not yet produced energy.
