Ex-Mayor of Vora Arrested in Italy for 20 Kg of Cocaine

Former mayor of Vora Agim Kajmaku has been arrested by Italian police, after being caught with 20 kg of drugs. The former mayor is already before the Italian justice, while he has had a long history with the Albanian one.

Kajmaku was elected mayor of Vora on June 30, 2019, in a race without an opponent, after the opposition boycotted the elections. It was the Democratic Party that discovered that Kajmaku had falsified the decriminalization document. The DP announced at the time that he had concealed his conviction in Greece for forgery.

uAfter a series of accusations and counter-accusations between the majority and the opposition, the Albanian justice started the investigation for Kajmak. The Central Election Commission fired him and the police declared him wanted.

After several months on the run, the former mayor was arrested in a private hospital in Tirana, on July 7, 2020. But, a day after his arrest, the Appeal rescued Kajmaku from prison. It was the prosecutor of the case, Arta Marku who demanded the easing of the security measure, arguing her position due to the changing circumstances of the event.

According to Marku at that time, Kajmaku was not a person with high social risk and did not risk leaving Albania. Kajmaku himself announced in a document that he had been suffering from diabetes for 15 years.
