Former head of Albania’s State Intelligence Service, Vlora Hyseni, has appealed to the Special Court of Appeal seeking the immediate lifting of her house arrest and her release.

In her appeal, filed by her lawyer, Hyseni argues that the circumstances and legal conditions required to impose the measure do not exist. She is being investigated by Albania’s Special Prosecution Office, (SPAK), over allegations of aiding a criminal suspect and disclosing classified information.

Hyseni’s legal team is challenging the decision that placed her under house arrest and is asking the court to revoke the measure.

Two other suspects in the case, Fatjon Kalluci and Embro Sulejmani, who are being held in pretrial detention, are also expected to appeal. Investigators reportedly suspect the two of disclosing classified information and assisting Ergys Agasi while he was wanted by authorities.

The case has drawn attention after classified information allegedly surfaced in communications involving the suspects. However, SPAK has not issued a detailed public statement on the allegations.

The prosecution has so far confirmed that it sought three security measures from the court, including one against the former intelligence chief. Hyseni has reportedly appeared in communications with Agasi, who was arrested during the summer and remains in pretrial detention in connection with the AKSHI investigation.

The appeals will now be reviewed by the Special Court of Appeal, while the investigation by SPAK remains ongoing.
