Italian Police Dismantle Drug Trafficking Gang, Albanians among Arrested

The Italian police have destroyed a "joint venture" between Albanians and a Moroccan group that aimed at wholesale drug trafficking to be resold in retail markets.

The State Police, within the framework of an activity coordinated by the magistrates of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Milan, received an order for the implementation of personal security measures, of which 15 with prison and 2 with an obligation to appear before the judicial police against a criminal group consisting of Albanian and Moroccan citizens, responsible for drug trafficking. The investigative activity carried out by the police of the Flying Squad, which began in February 2021, concerned the phenomenon of drug distribution to consumers in various forest areas of the city and in the interior of Milan.

Investigations

The investigations made it possible to establish a real criminal group with a top-down structure, dedicated to the trafficking of large quantities of heroin, but also cocaine and hashish, which came from abroad to be placed on the illegal market. Characterized as a joint venture between an Albanian group and a Moroccan group, the criminal network had as its objective the wholesale trafficking of drugs to be resold at retail in the various drug trafficking squares in Milan. This was to achieve the creation of a relationship that went beyond the negotiation meaning, in a single transfer in favor of a bond that facilitated the performance of all criminal activity.

Joint criminal enterprise

The Albanian group was equipped with a real permanent organization with a division of roles: those in charge of maintaining contacts with suppliers and customers, as well as receiving large quantities of heroin directly from Albania and Turkey. A special role was played by the treasurer of the group or the person responsible for the administration of the income derived from the sale of drugs and the payment of monthly fees to the members of the association, the logistics officer who took care of the management of the means necessary for the transport of drugs as well as found the cutting substance for the preparation of heroin.

On the other hand, North African nationals who moved in to ensure a continuous supply and after the heroin was prepared in the laboratory by the Albanians, bought it in large quantities and placed it in forested drug trading squares that they managed, including Rogoredo forest, where it was sold retail. The police of the 2nd Section of the Flying Squad of Milan arrested them in the act, seizing a total of 25 kilograms of heroin, 33 kg of hashish, 134 grams of cocaine and almost 200 thousand euros in cash as proceeds of illegal activity.
