Over 29% of Macedonian Population Are Albanians

The director of the State Statistical Office in Northern Macedonia has published the results of the census, which showed that 29.52% of the population is Albanian. 

Based on the results of the census held from 5 to 30 September 2021, the total number of resident population is 1,836,713 inhabitants. 

According to these data, out of the total number of resident population: 58.44 percent of them are declared Macedonian, 24% are Albanian, 3.84 percent Turks, 2.53 percent are from the Roma community, 0.47 percent are Vlachs, 1.3 percent Serbs and 0.87 percent are declared as Bosnians. 

According to the data, from the census of 2002, the number of Albanian population has decreased by about one percent in 2021. 

The State Statistical Office on Wednesday, March 30, also published the total number of the registered population, which includes residents and non-residents. A total of 2,097,319 persons were registered and of them; 54.21 percent declared themselves Macedonians, 29.52 percent Albanians, 3.98 percent Turks, 2.34 percent from the Roma community, 1.18 percent as Serbs, 0.98 Bosniaks and 0.44 Vlachs. 

According to data from the Statistical Office, the resident population in northern Macedonia has decreased by 185 thousand people or about 9 percent compared to the 2002 census.
