PAK Charges Former Road Authority Chief in Balluku Investigation
The Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has formally informed Ergys Verdho of the charges against him as part of an investigation involving former Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluku.
Verdho appeared before SPAK on Friday to be informed of the allegations relating to his tenure as head of the Albanian Road Authority, when he served under Balluku, according to Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha, citing prosecution sources.
His appearance comes days after prosecutors formally communicated final charges against Balluku. The allegations include violations of public tender procedures, passive corruption, failure to declare or conceal assets, and money laundering.
Verdho, who until recently headed the Albanian Railways, resigned following an order from Prime Minister Edi Rama, according to the report.
SPAK is continuing procedural steps involving other current and former officials linked to the case. Prosecutor Dritan Prençi has until January 2027 to complete the investigation.
The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and the accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a final court ruling.
