Police Officer Detained Over Alleged Abuse of Office, Evidence Tampering
The Police Oversight Agency in Tirana has detained a police officer, identified by the initials A.E., on suspicion of abuse of office and actions that allegedly obstruct the discovery of the truth.
Authorities say the officer, who held the rank of sub-commissioner and served as a Judicial Police Officer at Police Station No. 3 in Tirana, failed to act in accordance with the law in a case involving an individual found with a metal baton inside a vehicle.
According to official statements, the incident dates back to March 10, 2026, when A.E. carried out the arrest of a citizen identified as H.SH. During a vehicle inspection, officers discovered and seized a metal stick suspected to be a cold weapon.
However, investigators allege that during the procedural handling and documentation of the seized item, the officer did not follow standard operating procedures, potentially leading to the alteration or compromise of evidence.
The charges against A.E. include “abuse of office” and “actions that hinder the discovery of the truth,” offenses.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing as officials work to fully clarify the circumstances surrounding the case.
