Costs for imported products have marked a slight decrease in the second quarter of this year. On the contrary, production costs have marked a slight increase, according to data made public by INSTAT.

In the second quarter of 2026, the import price index reached 107.5 (2021 = 100), a decrease of 0.1% y/o/y.

A year ago, this change was -0.7%. Compared to the same quarter of a year ago, import prices marked a decrease in the sections “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning” (-2.2%), “Extractive industry” (-0.2%) and “Manufacturing industry” (-0.02%).

Compared to the first quarter of 2026, the Import Price Index remained almost unchanged, with an increase of only 0.001%.

Despite cheaper imports, producer costs continue to increase. According to INSTAT, in the second quarter of 2026, the Producer Price Index (PPI) reached 129.9, compared to 2021 (2021 = 100). Compared to the second quarter of 2025, the PPI increased by 0.1%.

The highest annual increase was recorded in the sections “Manufacturing industry” and “Water supply, waste treatment and management activities” with 0.4% each. Within this section, the largest price increase is observed in “Manufacture of rubber and plastic products” and “Processing of food products” with 1.5% each.

While the largest price decrease is observed in the activities “Metallurgy” and “Manufacture of electrical equipment” with 0.7%. On the other hand, the “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning” section marked a decrease of 0.6%, followed by the “Extracting industry” section with 0.2%. For the domestic market, the CPI increased by 0.3%, compared to the same quarter of 2025, while for exports it marked a decrease of 0.3%.

Compared to the first quarter of 2026, the CPI marked an increase of 0.1%. The highest quarterly growth was recorded in the sections “Extractive industry” with 0.2%, “Manufacturing industry” and “Water supply, waste treatment and management activities” with 0.1% each. On the other hand, the section “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning” marked a decrease of 0.1%.
