Albania to Reopen Embassy in Ireland After Years of Closure

Albania will reestablish its diplomatic presence in Ireland after the government approved the reopening of the country's embassy in Dublin, reversing a decision that had left the mission closed for several years.

The decision was approved by the Council of Ministers following a proposal from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. According to the government, the move aims to strengthen diplomatic relations, expand economic cooperation, and improve consular services between Albania and Ireland.

Government officials said the costs associated with opening and operating the embassy will be covered through the 2026 state budget under the "Diplomatic Support Abroad" program, with funding allocated to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The ministry has been tasked with implementing the decision, which will enter into force after its publication in the country's Official Gazette.

According to the government decision, the measure was adopted pursuant to Article 100 of Albania's Constitution and Article 25 of Law No. 24/2026 on the Foreign Service of the Republic of Albania, following a proposal by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
