Albanian Ambassador in Kyiv Describes 'Massive' Russian Attack Near His Residence

Albania’s ambassador to Kyiv, Ernal Filo, has spoken publicly after a Russian missile and drone attack struck near the residential complex where he lives in the Ukrainian capital.

Filo described the situation as extremely difficult, saying the assault lasted for several hours and involved the use of drones and multiple types of missiles. According to the ambassador, the attack began around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and continued until approximately 6:00 a.m. Sunday.

“This time it was truly very challenging and extremely intense,” Filo told local media. “Fortunately, we are safe. I am the only diplomat living in this building. The attack started at 22:00 and lasted until 06:00 in the morning. It was one of the strongest attacks since we reopened the embassy last year.”

The ambassador said Russian forces used various types of missiles, including Iskander missiles, in what he described as a “massive assault” that continued for hours.

Residents of the area reportedly fled in panic during the bombardment, while children inside the residential complex were seen crying as explosions echoed throughout the night.

“People in Ukraine are used to these situations, but nothing on this scale has been seen before,” Filo said. “We sheltered in secure basements until morning. The complex where I live, which is very close to the embassy, suffered significant damage. I saw death with my own eyes.”

The attack was also condemned by Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, who said the ambassador’s life had been placed in serious danger and described the incident as unacceptable.

In a public statement, Hoxha said Albania “strongly condemns another brutal large-scale attack with ballistic missiles and drones” carried out by Russia against civilian targets in Ukraine, calling it “a total disregard for human life and dignity.”
