Albanian Among Dosens Arrested in Italy on Drug Charges
Italian authorities have carried out this Tuesday morning the operation codenamed "Lockdown", which has led to the destruction of a criminal group in the field of drug trafficking.
The operation was called "Lockdown", precisely because the group operated, taking advantage of the coronavirus pandemic situation, write the Italian media.
This operation led to the arrest of 24 people, including Albanians. Of those arrested, 18 were jailed and 6 others were left on house arrest.
The criminal group was organized on three levels and the Albanians had the role of supplying marijuana, hashish and cocaine. The other two levels were composed mainly of Italian citizens. Their criminal activity extended to the territories of the provinces of Milan, Monza, Turin, Bergamo and Sassari.
Police seized from the detainees' money, gold coins, vehicles, as well as a horse stable bought from drug money. Italian police authorities, but not only, have several times raised the concern that the pandemic has caused drug trafficking to take on great proportions globally.
