The Italian Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate has published a report focusing on crimes related to drug trafficking. According to this report, which covers the period of the first half of last year, cocaine is in the hands of Peruvians, while heroin is managed by Turks and Albanians. 

The report states that the import of heroin is managed by the Turks, "who export it to the European market through Albanian channels". As for cocaine, "Peruvians have a position of absolute importance in importing drugs. "Over the years, they have perfected a certain capacity in transferring drugs from production sites to Lombardy and Milan in particular." 

Then there are the Albanians, who transport cocaine from the gates of Northern Europe to Lombardy, through their network of traffickers. Albanian crime is one of the most complex and articulated expressions in the foreign crime scenario in Italy, the report states. 

"Albanian criminals present in most of the national territory show different organizational and operational typologies. Some interact within small groups, including multiethnic groups. In other cases, they have been consolidated into well-structured and stable criminal organizations rooted in the area and operating in a manner similar to those of typical mafias", the report said. 

A special feature of Albanian organizations then has to do with "affiliations" often based on family ties or in any case between entities coming from the same city or from the same geographical area of ??the country of origin and are based on specific codes of behavior. 

The report points out that the main sector of interest for Albanian crime is that of drug trafficking, however, arms trafficking, human trafficking or exploitation of prostitution are not far behind.
