Prime Minister’s Office has responded to judges and prosecutors after their decision to decline an invitation to a meeting on salaries in the justice system.

In an emaiL, the Prime Minister’s Office said it understood the reasons given by representatives of the judiciary for not attending the meeting and remained open to resuming dialogue at a later date.

“We value the reasons presented by you and remain open to continuing the dialogue at a later time,” the email states.

The message was sent by the Office of the Secretary-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, Elsonida Rama.

Government officials said that, starting the following day, work would continue on drafting a new law on salaries in the justice system. A general proposal had already been prepared and was intended to form part of the discussion with representatives of the judiciary.

The email also emphasized the importance of institutional dialogue and cooperation among the different actors within the justice system, while noting that such dialogue could proceed independently of other legal processes taking place in parallel.

Representatives of judges and prosecutors, as well as Albania’s Supreme Court, had declined to participate in the meeting called by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The judicial representatives have said they would engage in dialogue after the Constitutional Court rules on the salary dispute, which has already been referred to the court for consideration.

The government’s latest response leaves the door open for further talks, while preparations for a new legal framework on judicial salaries are set to continue.
