Interior Minister Says 15-Year Entry Ban Based on Intelligence Assessments

Interior Minister, Besfort Lamallari, has defended the government’s decision to declare Ikballe Huduti Berisha an “undesirable person” and impose a 15-year ban from entering the country, saying the measure was based on intelligence assessments indicating a threat to national security.

Speaking in an interview with ABC News Albania, Lamallari stated that the decision was taken following information provided by intelligence services and was made in the interest of protecting the country.

“The decision was based on intelligence information. It is an appropriate decision and one that serves the interests of our country,” Lamallari said. He added that information collected over time had led authorities to conclude that the individual’s activities constituted a threat, warranting such action.

The minister also confirmed that an expulsion order has been issued. According to Lamallari, if Huduti Berisha is found within the territory of the Republic of Albania, she will be deported.

While declining to disclose classified details, Lamallari stressed that certain information must remain restricted under the law. He also suggested that some public demonstrations had been influenced by external interests.

“What began as a citizens’ protest was later exploited by foreign agendas,” he said. “There are foreign agendas that do not want Albania to become a member of the European Union.”

Lamallari emphasized that the Albanian State Police has a legal obligation to monitor and assess individuals who may pose risks to national security. He said authorities are committed to protecting citizens while preventing potential abuses by individuals engaged in suspicious activities.

“This is the daily work of intelligence and law enforcement agencies—to gather information and take preventive measures when necessary,” Lamallari stated.

The minister did not provide further details regarding the intelligence findings that led to the decision.
