Large Wildfire Erupts Near Vlore, Authorities Say No Immediate Threat to Homes

A large wildfire broke out Wednesday evening in the Shashicë area of Vlore, with strong winds contributing to the rapid spread of the flames, according to local authorities.

Vlore Mayor Mersini said numerous firefighting and emergency crews have been deployed to the area and are working to contain the blaze despite difficult terrain that is complicating the response.

At present, the fire does not pose an immediate threat to residential areas because there are no homes in the immediate vicinity of the affected zone, authorities said.

“The fire in Shashicë, also fueled by the wind, has grown significantly, but currently does not pose a threat as there are no homes nearby,” Mersini said in a statement Wednesday evening.

She added that emergency forces remain on full alert and will stay in the area to contain the fire's perimeter and prevent any potential danger to populated areas.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid obstructing the movement of emergency vehicles responding to the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
