A 70-year-old man has been arrested in northern Albania on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and illegally possessing firearms and ammunition, authorities said.

The suspect, identified only by the initials Rr.U., was detained in the municipality of Has following an investigation led by the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Kukës.

According to an official statement, police discovered three plots planted with suspected Cannabis sativa in the village of Vlahen. Authorities said they seized a total of 1,874 cannabis plants during the operation.

The suspect is under investigation for alleged cannabis cultivation and the illegal manufacture and possession of military weapons and ammunition, offenses under Albania's Criminal Code.
