Record of Albanian Investments Abroad

Albanian investments abroad reached a new historical record last year. According to data from the Bank of Albania, for 2025, the value of investments by Albanian companies abroad was Euro 241 million, up 25% compared to the previous year.

For the most part, Albanian investments were in direct contributions to the capital of companies controlled abroad. 65% of the total value of Albanian investments abroad in 2025 were new capital injections, while the remainder were mainly reinvested profits of companies controlled abroad.

Outward direct investments, however, still have a low weight in relation to foreign inward investments in Albania, with about 18% of them. The net balance of foreign direct investments was negative (inward investments significantly exceeded outward investments), for a total value of Euro 1.33 billion, down 0.7% compared to 2024.

Foreign direct investments in Albania increased for the fifth consecutive year in 2025 and reached a new historical record. They marked the value of Euro 1.64 billion, up 3.5% compared to the previous year.

Statistical information on Albania’s enterprise investments abroad is limited only to Balance of Payments data, and there are no more detailed data on their geographical or sectoral distribution.

However, it is known that some of the large business groups in Albania have extended part of their activities abroad, as part of the strategy of expanding and diversifying markets. This trend seems to be increasing significantly in recent years.

The Balfin Group has been expanding its construction and real estate activities in Austria, Switzerland, and North America for years. The Kastrati Group has made a significant investment in the hotel sector in the USA. Meanwhile, other important Albanian business groups also have a consolidated presence in regional markets, especially in Kosovo.

Data from the Central Bank of Kosovo provide information on Albanian investments in Kosovo, which is estimated to be the country with the highest concentration of Albanian investments.

CBK figures show that by the end of 9 months of 2025, the stock of Albanian investments in Kosovo was worth Euro 551 million. With this figure, Albania is the third largest investor in Kosovo.

According to the CBK, in the sectoral breakdown, Albanian investments are mainly concentrated in real estate, construction, manufacturing, and trade.
