Court Releases 19 Protesters Arrested Outside Parliament on July 2, Two Remain Under House Arrest

The Tirana Court has ordered the release of 19 individuals who were arrested during a protest outside the Albanian Parliament on July 2, while imposing stricter measures on two of the detainees.

According to the court’s ruling, the majority of the protesters will be placed under “obligation to appear,” a legal measure requiring regular reporting to authorities instead of detention. However, two individuals, Everest Bardhi and Ervin Gega, will remain under house arrest.

The Prosecutor’s Office had initially brought five charges against the group, including resistance to police, property destruction, disturbance of public order, organizing an illegal gathering, and blocking traffic.

Prosecutors had requested pre-trial detention for three of the 21 detained individuals. However, the court opted for more lenient preventive measures, rejecting the request for full “arrest in prison” and instead applying lighter restrictions for most of the accused.

The case stems from tensions during a protest held outside the parliament building earlier this month, which resulted in multiple detentions and subsequent legal proceedings.
