Police Officer Arrested in Gambling and Drug Investigation in Fushë-Krujë

An Albanian police officer has been arrested along with two other individuals as part of an investigation into alleged illegal gambling and drug-related activities in Fushë-Krujë, authorities said.

The arrests were carried out by Albania’s Police Oversight Agency (AMP) during an operation codenamed “The Last Bet”, launched following an investigation into suspected criminal activity in the area.

The detained officer was identified as Lutfi Dervishi, a Community Policing Assistant Specialist assigned to cover the city of Fushë-Krujë. He is suspected of abuse of office and of organizing or facilitating illegal gambling activities, according to AMP.

During a search of Dervishi’s home, investigators said they found and seized 119 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The operation also led to the arrest of brothers Sabah Stafuga and Fatmir Stafuga, residents of Arrameras, Fushë-Krujë. They are accused of organizing illegal gambling activities and drug production and distribution.

Authorities carried out a search at a bar-café owned by Ahmet Stafuka, in the area known as the “Farmers’ Market,” where investigators allegedly discovered equipment linked to illegal gambling operations and suspected drug-related materials.

Items seized during the operation included four electronic gambling machines, two computer servers allegedly used for illegal activities, a DVR device, mobile phones, packaging materials, and several bags containing substances suspected to be narcotics.

According to AMP, investigators are continuing their work to fully document the alleged criminal activity, identify any additional individuals who may have been involved, and determine whether other law enforcement personnel may have provided assistance, support, or failed to act.

The Police Oversight Agency said it remains committed to applying the law equally and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward any public official suspected of involvement in unlawful activities.
