Protesters to March to Tirana Court as Detention Hearings Begin for Arrested Demonstrators

Following Saturday’s mass protest, organizers, activists, and supporters are set to march to the Tirana Court at around 9:00 a.m. local time, where judges were expected to decide on security measures for demonstrators arrested during the July 2 protests.

The gathering will take place outside the Tirana Court, located near the Special Prosecution against Corruption Structure (SPAK), as hearings begin for those detained after clashes with police.

The demonstration follows violent confrontations that erupted during Thursday’s parliamentary session. Protesters threw stones and eggs at police officers, while security forces responded with water cannons and tear gas. After exits from Parliament were blocked and unrest spread to several streets across the capital, police detained 18 people and formally arrested nine. Both police officers and civilians were reported injured during the clashes.

Protest organizers have described the arrests as politically motivated and unlawful, calling for the immediate release of those detained.

Monday’s march is being presented by organizers as a continuation of the protest movement that extended into the early hours following Saturday’s rally.

After the main demonstration concluded, protesters marched to Police Station No. 3 on Mine Peza Street, where they remained until after midnight, chanting “Free our boys” in a show of solidarity. Organizers say today’s rally outside the court will continue that campaign, with their central demand remaining the immediate release of the arrested protesters.
