Protesters Mark 40th Day of Demonstrations, Renew Calls for Albanian Government's Resignation
Protesters gathered for the 40th consecutive day on Tirana's "Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard, continuing their campaign demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and what organizers described as the country's entire political establishment.
During Thursday's demonstration, protesters also directed criticism at State Police Director Skënder Hita, accusing authorities of targeting thousands of social media accounts linked to negative online reviews of Albanian businesses. Organizers referred to police statements that more than 10,000 social media accounts had been identified as part of the investigation.
Speakers at the rally also accused police in the municipality of Kamëz of detaining several demonstrators, although authorities have not publicly commented on the allegations.
Addressing supporters from the stage, organizers vowed to continue daily demonstrations until political leaders step down. They also announced plans for a nationwide protest on Saturday.
As with previous rallies, the demonstration concluded with a march through Tirana's main streets, where protesters continued chanting for the resignation of government officials until around midnight.
